Due to continued growth, we are recruiting for a Motion Systems Senior Test Engineer, based in Gaydon, UK. This is a 6-month Fixed Term Contract position or Contracting (Inside IR35) – with the possibility of extension.
THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced Motion Systems Test Engineer to lead on vehicle issue investigation and validation activities in support of the Project Programme. This will include all vehicle test activities, including instrumentation, data logging and analysis, vehicle preparation, maintenance and logistics according to the programme test plan. It is envisaged that this role will also include an element of knowledge transfer and coaching to less experienced team members.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Working as a member of the Systems Squad, the successful individual will have tasks assigned/prioritised by the System Product Owner and Driver Modes Group Leader.
- Will be responsible for on-vehicle debugging, fleet support, software flashing and instrumentation.
- Will be responsible for any instrumentation and datalogging requirements.
- Will support the Product Owner/Group leader in both Route Cause Analysis and permanent corrective actions.
- As a key member of the wider Motion Controls Group reporting to the Test Team Leader, lead the enablement of test activities through vehicle preparation & logistics across multiple projects.
- Liaise with relevant departments and teams to ensure availability of mature components, software and other critical items for keeping vehicles representative of design intent.
- Take responsibility for and manage the execution of vehicle instrumentation, maintenance and rework plans, escalation of issues & roadblocks and identifying help required.
EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE
Essential:
- Self-starter, proactive with good initiative and a delivery focused mindset.
- Good practical knowledge of technical preparation and maintenance of road vehicles.
- Strong communicator and good networker with excellent organisational skills.
- Able to work unsupervised from a clear set of instructions/deadlines.
- Class 3 qualified driver inc. 1PG (Full UK driving license assumed).
- Strong capability in both Corvus Diagnostic Sw and Vector Toolsets – CANape / CANalyzer.
- Understanding of automotive electronic networking, diagnostics and fault handling techniques, along with relevant problem solving and reporting tools (Six Sigma, 5D, Is / Is Not, Fault Tree etc).
- Good understanding of Automotive Motion Control Systems.
Desirable:
- Off-road Qualification 1OR/2OR (or their more modern equivalents).
- Basic understanding of Vehicle Dynamics.
- Automotive or Mechanical Engineering Degree.
