Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
The Role:
We are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer – Geartrain to support the concept and M1 design phases of multiple P4 Electric Drive Units (EDUs) for a next-generation PHEV platform. The role requires strong mechanical design expertise, hands-on skills with Siemens NX/Teamcenter, and the ability to lead packaging, geartrain, and component design activities from concept through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design & Layout :
• Develop and support concept and M1 design activities for multiple P4 EDU systems.
• Design and package mechanical components and systems using Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
• Create and review 3D models and 2D drawings for components such as housings, shafts, gears, and bearings.
Geartrain Design & Simulation :
• Lead geartrain layout design and optimization for performance, NVH, and durability.
• Perform and review 1D calculations for gear and bearing design using first principles.
• Simulate geartrains using MASTA for performance validation and refinement.
EDU System Integration:
• Define EDU layout and integration within the PHEV architecture.
• Ensure proper packaging of EDU within the vehicle constraints and coordinate with other vehicle teams for interface alignment.
Project Management & Design Reviews:
• Support cross-functional project delivery, timeline adherence, and milestone completion.
• Lead and participate in mechanical and system-level design reviews.
• Document design decisions, assumptions, and analysis results to ensure traceability.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor\’s or Master\’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in EDU or transmission systems.
• Proficient in Siemens NX and Teamcenter for 3D modeling and BOM management.
• Experience in geartrain layout, bearing design, and 1D engineering calculations.
• Hands-on with MASTA or equivalent geartrain simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of mechanical first principles and system-level integration.
• Proven experience in design review processes and technical decision-making.
