Due to our continued growth, we are now recruiting for an EV Battery BMS Software Engineer to be based at our office customers site in Warwick.

Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled EV Battery Software Engineer to lead the technical delivery, integration, and validation of software for supplier provided EV battery packs used in electric vehicles. This role serves as the primary technical interface with battery suppliers, ensuring their software meets all functional, safety, diagnostic, and performance requirements at both the battery system level and vehicle level. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in embedded software, battery management systems (BMS), automotive development processes, and cross‑functional collaboration.

Area of Responsibility

  • Supplier Technical Leadership
  • Act as the primary software technical lead for supplied battery packs and BMS software.
  • Own the technical relationship with battery suppliers, including requirement clarification, issue resolution, and software delivery schedules.
  • Review supplier software architecture, design documentation, calibration data, and release notes to ensure alignment with OEM requirements.
  • Lead technical discussions, design reviews, FMEAs, and issue triage meetings with suppliers.
  • Define, refine, and manage battery software requirements, including functionality, performance, diagnostics, cybersecurity, and safety‑related requirements.
  • Ensure full traceability between OEM requirements, supplier deliverables, and vehicle‑level needs.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering to align battery software behaviour with overall vehicle functions (charging, thermal, power management, propulsion).
  • Develop and execute battery and vehicle‑level software validation plans, including SIL/HIL/vehicle testing.
  • Support the creation of test cases for BMS functions such as fault detection and diagnostics and thermal control strategies.
  • Lead root‑cause investigations for software‑related issues detected during testing or in‑field data.
  • Validate that supplier software meets homologation and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate supplier BMS software integration into vehicle ECUs, networks, and toolchains.
  • Support calibration teams to ensure proper parameter tuning for performance, robustness, and safety.
  • Verify proper CAN/LIN communication and data mapping across vehicle networks.
  • Support functional safety teams in reviewing supplier safety work products (ISO 26262).
  • Ensure cybersecurity compliance (ISO 21434), including secure boot, encryption, and secure diagnostics.
  • Work closely with battery design, thermal systems, propulsion controls, charging systems, diagnostics, manufacturing, and service engineering teams.
  • Translate complex technical issues into clear communication for program management and leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • Experience in automotive software development or embedded systems.
  • Direct experience with BMS software development, validation, or integration.
  • Embedded control systems.
  • High‑voltage battery operation.
