Job Description

At Tata Technologies we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering and validating the products of tomorrow for the world’s leading manufacturers. Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for an EDU Functions System Engineer to be based at our customer’s site in Gaydon

Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

The Role:

We are seeking a motivated and technically driven EDU Functions System Engineer to support the development and system-level definition of electric drive unit (EDU) functionalities. This includes gearbox control, combined EDU-inverter integration, and software function ownership across control, diagnostics, and safety domains. The role is central to model-based system design activities and supports cross-squad collaboration using SysML, MSOSA, and structured engineering tools like TRM and X-ray.

Area of Responsibility

⚙️ EDU System Engineering

  • Define and manage requirements and interfaces for EDU subsystems including gearbox control, torque delivery, and energy flow coordination across inverter systems
  • Ensure seamless integration between EDU software, inverter controls, and powertrain network communication
  • Develop feature-level specifications and system boundaries for drive modes, gear control logic, and regen strategies
  • Conduct cross-domain technical reviews and alignment workshops with embedded SW, hardware, controls, and safety teams

🛡️ Functional Safety

  • Support implementation of ISO 26262 safety lifecycle tasks including HARA, ASIL allocation, and safety goal validation for combined EDU/inverter systems
  • Assist FuSa leads in preparing safety concepts, technical requirements, and mitigation strategies
  • Ensure system functions are properly decomposed with allocated safety mechanisms and traceability to compliance tools

🧩 Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

  • Use SysML/MSOSA methodologies to develop functional architectures, state machines, interface diagrams, and scenario models
  • Maintain system model consistency across squads and disciplines using MBSE frameworks and repositories
  • Support system configuration, baselining, and validation using TRM, X-ray, and PLM integration tools
  • Drive traceability from feature-level objectives through design, implementation, and validation plans

Knowledge / Experience

  • Experience in powertrain systems development, preferably within EV/HEV platforms
  • Strong understanding of EDU function design, including software integration, control logic, and diagnostics
  • Hands-on experience with model-based systems engineering, including SysML tools (e.g., Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect)
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262, TRM methodology, and requirement management systems (DOORS, Polarion, X-ray)

👍 Desirable

  • Experience in gearbox control systems, torque management algorithms, and drivetrain behavior modeling
  • Knowledge of inverter systems, motor control (FOC, current loops), and embedded software interactions
  • Understanding of vehicle bus architectures (CAN, LIN, FlexRay) and diagnostic stacks (UDS, ODX)
  • Agile development experience and ability to collaborate in multi-squad environments

In return for bringing your expertise to our business we offer a competitive salary along with excellent benefits including:

  • Pension Scheme – We match employee contribution up to 5% of salary
  • 25 Days’ Holiday
  • Private Health Care
  • Tata Jaguar Land Rover Privilege Scheme – up to 20% off new JLR vehicles
  • Group Income Protection
  • Health Assured – Employee Assistance Program
  • Group Life Assurance
  • Health Shield – Private Health Cash Plan
