Due to continued growth, we are recruiting for a Durability & Robustness Engineer based in Gaydon, UK.

THE ROLE

Accessories sits as an independent function within our customer and is responsible for delivering a wide range of products aimed and enhancing and optimising the client experience of our vehicles. As a cross functional department, we collaborate with our colleagues within the main business to deliver Accessories as a fundamental part of the customer product

The Accessories Durability & Robustness (D&R) Lead Engineer will report to the Accessories Attributes Manager and will work extremely closely within the relevant client attributes teams, taking responsibility for the development, measurement and balancing of the D&R attribute to ensure our products align to the identities of client brand houses.

The successful candidate will have a clear passion for the quality, continuous improvement and innovation of both our products and the way we operate in the eyes of our internal and external customers.

  • AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Ensure robust attribute target definition through completion of vehicle/product benchmarking and futuring activities, physical and virtual testing, measurement and visual assessments.
  • Work with engineering system owners to ensure robust target and requirements cascade in support of overall vehicle level targets (e. g. via RMDV, Doors, TRM).
  • Planning and delivery of vehicle and system level DV, covering CAE, RLD, rig & driven activities.
  • Ensure DVP makes use of best practices and maximises use of cost-effective tools and techniques such as CAE.
  • Reporting Attribute status through robust documentation in support of relevant programme gateways.
  • Consult with cross-functional teams to ensure technical issues are identified, progressed and resolved.
  • Communicate and present technical guidance and recommendations to all levels of the business.
  • Function as Accessories Attributes representative within vehicle D&R team.
  • Support lessons learnt and continuous improvement activities from all programmes as best practice.
  • Actively contribute towards off-cycle capability development and study activities.

EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE

  • Clear history and experience of working within a vehicle engineering environment, with a good understanding of Durability & Robustness engineering principles.
  • A broad knowledge of whole vehicle engineering and technologies.
  • Experience of defining and delivering to attribute targets and requirements using a data driven approach.
  • Experience of planning, implementing and conducting vehicle testing and sign-off activities.
  • Knowledge and experience of D&R vehicle and system test methodologies and procedures, including proving grounds, rig test and road load data application.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including the utilisation of standard problem-solving tools.
  • Awareness of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design of Experiments (Do E).
  • Experienced in Microsoft software packages- particularly Excel and Power Point.
  • Knowledge of engineering project management fundamentals.
  • Full driving licence valid for UK use.
  • A degree or similar qualification in a relevant technical/engineering discipline.
  • Experience of delivering accessory, bespoke and/or low volume vehicle programmes and content.
  • Exposure to virtual validation/CAE methods and toolsets.
  • Experience of CAD /PLM tools e. g. Vis Mock Up, 3DX, Teamcenter.
  • Experience of risk assessment and mitigation planning.
  • Experience using specific requirements, issues & change management software tools.
  • Experience of operating within industry standard Product Creation & Delivery Systems.
  • Understanding of Agile or Lean project management fundamentals.
