Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Technical Expert – Display Systems to be based at our customer’s site in Bicester. Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.
The Role:
As a Technical Expert with interior display systems, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and integration of interior display systems for cutting-edge automotive applications. This position requires deep technical expertise in display technologies, cross-functional collaboration, and a strong background in OEM or Tier 1 automotive engineering. The successful candidate will lead key activities related to display design, validation, and testing, ensuring that all systems meet functional, aesthetic, and safety requirements. Exposure to Design Validation Plans (DVP), Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and advanced engineering practices are key to this role.
Area of Responsibility:
- Lead the design, development, and integration of advanced interior display systems for automotive applications, ensuring alignment with OEM specifications and standards.
- The displays mainly include instrument cluster display (also called driver display) and infotainment display.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, mechanical, and electrical) to ensure seamless integration of display systems into the overall vehicle architecture.
- Own the development of display system prototypes and production-ready designs, managing the process from concept to production.
- Coordinate and execute validation and testing of display systems, including functional, environmental, and durability testing.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of Design Validation Plans (DVP) for display systems, ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.
- Facilitate DFMEA activities, proactively identifying potential risks and leading efforts to mitigate issues related to interior display systems.
- Manage and report on project progress, risks, and milestones to senior management, ensuring timely delivery of interior display systems.
- Lead the troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical issues related to display performance, durability, and integration.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices in display technology and automotive engineering.
- Stay updated on the latest trends and innovations in display technologies and automotive interior design to ensure the company remains at the forefront of the industry.
Knowledge / Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in the design, development, and testing of automotive interior displays or related technologies.
- Strong understanding of automotive display systems, including TFT, OLED, and touchscreens, and their integration into the vehicle.
- Proven experience in leading DVP and DFMEA activities, with a focus on system-level validation and failure analysis.
- Familiarity with automotive industry standards and regulations, including ISO 26262 and functional safety requirements.
- Expertise in CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, Siemens NX) and simulation software for display design and integration.
- Solid understanding of electrical and electronic systems within the context of automotive interiors.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Skills:
- OEM or Tier 1 automotive industry experience.
- Experience with advanced automotive display technologies, such as augmented reality (AR) or head-up displays (HUD).
- Familiarity with software tools for simulation, testing, and validation (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW, etc.).
- Understanding of human-machine interaction (HMI) and user experience (UX) design principles in automotive displays.
- Knowledge of industry-specific quality and safety standards, such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949.
- Prior experience working with high-performance automotive platforms (e.g., luxury or performance vehicles).
