Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Senior Project Engineer - Audio Systems to be based at our customer’s site in Bicester.
Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.
The Role:
The Senior Project Engineer - Audio Systems will lead the design, development and integration of advanced audio systems for next-generation vehicles. This role combines expertise in audio signal processing, embedded software development, and automotive infotainment systems. The engineer will work on Android Automotive, DSP algorithms, and audio frameworks to deliver premium in-car sound experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development & Integration
· Design, implement, and optimize audio software components for automotive infotainment systems.
· Work on Android Audio Framework, HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer), and middleware components.
· Develop DSP algorithms for noise cancellation, equalization, and immersive sound
System Architecture & Performance
· Create detailed software architecture and design documents.
· Ensure low-latency audio processing and high system stability.
· Integrate audio solutions with automotive SoCs and connectivity standards (CarPlay, Android Auto).
Testing & Quality Assurance
· Perform unit, integration, and functional testing of audio modules.
· Drive automated test cases and maintain compliance with ASPICE and automotive standards.
Collaboration
· Work closely with cross-functional teams (hardware, UX, multimedia) and external suppliers.
Required Skills
· Strong programming skills in C++ and Android development.
· Knowledge of DSP theory, real-time audio processing, Active noise control, equalizers, and sound effects.
· knowledge of Audio frameworks: Android Audio HAL, DSP libraries.
· Strong understanding of audio system architecture: Amplifiers, speakers, sub woofers, microphones, ANC/ENC systems
· Expertise in Android Audio Framework, HAL, Audio Policy Manager, Audio Flinger.
· Familiarity with Linux/UNIX, QNX, and automotive communication buses (A2B, TDM).
· Problem solving & supplier management.
· Vehicle NVH awareness.
· Good knowledge of vehicle infotainment systems and associated features.
Preferred Skills
· Experience with AI-driven audio processing and cloud-based audio streaming.
· Knowledge of CarPlay and Android Auto certifications.
· Familiarity with audio networking protocols and immersive sound technologies.
Qualifications
· Education: Bachelor’s/master’s in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
· Extensive experience in automotive audio software development.
· Certifications: ASPICE, Agile, or relevant automotive certifications are a plus.
