Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Project Engineer – Switches & Controls to be based at our customer’s site in Bicester.

Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer with Switches & Controls experience to join our engineering team at an OEM company. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of interior switch components for automotive applications. This role involves working with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality, reliable, and innovative switch solutions that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the automotive sector, specifically with OEM or Tier 1 suppliers, and be well‑versed in key product development activities such as DVP (Design Validation Plan) and DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).

Area of Responsibility

  • Support technical expert in the design, development, and validation of interior switch systems, ensuring they meet functional, quality, and safety standards for automotive applications.
  • The switches include but are not limited to talk control, start‑stop switch, DNR switches, etc.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including design, electrical, software, and quality departments to develop innovative switch technologies.
  • Work & manage the design and development of switches into vehicle platforms, from concept to production, ensuring all technical requirements are met.
  • Prepare and execute DVP (Design Validation Plan) and support testing phases to ensure switches meet rigorous performance criteria.
  • Conduct DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to identify and mitigate potential risks and failures in the design phase.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and ensure adherence to best practices and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of components and resolve any technical issues that may arise.
  • Contribute to product design reviews and ensure compliance with relevant automotive standards and regulations.
  • Track and report on project progress, ensuring timely delivery of design milestones and final product release.
  • Actively participate in the development of cost‑reduction initiatives and improvements in the product lifecycle.

Knowledge / Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering (or related field).
  • Experience in automotive switch system design, with a focus on interior switch components.
  • Proven experience working with OEM or Tier 1 automotive suppliers.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive engineering processes, including DVP and DFMEA methodologies.
  • Hands‑on experience with switch design, testing, and validation processes.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, Siemens NX, SolidWorks) and design verification tools.
  • Strong understanding of automotive electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in working within cross‑functional teams and managing technical projects from concept to production.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills with a strong ability to identify, analyse, and resolve design challenges.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with automotive interior switch design for specific vehicle types (e.g., luxury, electric vehicles).
  • Familiarity with the latest automotive trends, including HMI (Human‑Machine Interface) and touch‑based switch technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of material selection and process engineering for automotive components.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as ISO 26262 (functional safety), ECE regulations, and other automotive standards.
  • Experience with supplier management and working within a global supply chain.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools and software for testing and analysis (e.g., Ansys, MATLAB, etc.).
  • Ability to manage and mentor a team of engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing across departments.
