At Tata Technologies we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering and validating the products of tomorrow for the world's leading manufacturers. Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Software Release Engineer to be based at our customer's site in Woking.

Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

Role Summary: The Software Release Engineer plays a vital role in delivering vehicle software releases. Reporting to the Senior Software Releases and Management Engineer, the role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to coordinate across multiple teams and functions. The post-holder will ensure accurate release reporting, maintain high-quality release data and provide governance to ensure release gates and software requirements are actioned on time.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the end-to-end software releases process, ensuring that all releases are delivered on time and meet quality standards.
  • Work closely with the Integration, Verification and Validation groups, planning and coordinating software deliveries and test activities.
  • Responsible for maintaining a Software BOM for multiple product variants and generating/managing software part numbers.
  • Ensure that all software releases undergo proper validation, including functional testing, integration testing, and performance testing before deployment.
  • Represent the Software Releases activity at all levels of the business.
  • Oversee the management of software issues databases, engaging with relevant stakeholders to ensure issues are prioritised correctly and timely resolved.
  • Manage the integration of third-party software components and ensure they meet quality standards and integrate seamlessly into the vehicle systems.
  • Develop and maintain release plans, schedules, and documentation for all software releases.

Required skills & experience:

  • Engineering degree qualification (preferably Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related field, 2:1 or above).
  • Proven experience in end-to-end release management, with an emphasis on automotive software to ensure familiarity with industry-specific standards and practices.
  • Ability to create and maintain Software BOMs, ensuring accuracy and traceability for multiple product variants.
  • Proficiency in developing and tracking release plans, schedules, and documentation, with attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with third-party software vendors, managing integrations to maintain quality and compatibility within complex vehicle systems.
  • Formal project or quality management certification can help streamline processes and improve release timelines and quality.
  • Familiarity with database tools for tracking issues and managing workflows can enhance productivity and improve communication with stakeholders e.g. Jira.
  • Excellent communication skills to represent the Software Releases team and coordinate with multiple business levels for effective release management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to engage effectively across all levels and articulate ideas clearly.
  • Able to tactfully challenge without alienating.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and build strong working relationships.
  • Excellent indirect management skills, promoting cross-functional teamwork.

Advantageous skills:

  • Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management or similar systems.
  • Understanding of automotive industry terminology and engineering requirements.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Systems and Controls domain.
  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (Ethernet, Controller Area Network, Local Interconnect Network).
  • Understanding of engineering change management processes.
  • Experience working in a high-performance automotive environment.
