Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Lead Engineer Air Systems to be based at our customers site in Peterborough.

Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.

The Role:

As a Lead Engineer of Air Systems you will set up & run the design control to ensure up front input from all relevant areas, providing leadership and technical expertise in your area.

Dimension of function:

Engineering, Research and Development (ER&D is a growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on projects and programmes for our clients globally. This position takes ownership of a given Module on at least one Project through the full product development cycle. The position will involve team leadership, technical guidance and financial planning.


Key Responsibilities:

Provide Technical inputs to the Project work.

Design and packaging of Air Intake system components

Lead from Technical front & deliver the specification targets

Component and system level packaging and concept studies including feasibility

Work in collaboration with the other teams to identify and specify design activity required

Component and system design and detailing from prototype to production to internal and external design standards including GD&T

Check the content of designs for release against the specification, the data integrity of CAD geometry and resolution of build concerns prior to sign-off

Be the point of contact for the rest of the design community for day-to-day engineering matters

Identify opportunities to reduce complexity, cost and weight

Technical Specifications Ensure the design of all components meets the Technical Specifications

Engineering Release Meet all defined engineering release dates. At engineering release all specifications will have been checked and met, weight and cost targets achieved, supplier DFM fully concurred, CAE output implemented, materials and finish defined, all fixings identified and positioned, and all outstanding Build Concern Reports are embodied and documented at the point of release

Weight Lead Engineer must ensure the design is weight efficient, weight targets are surpassed, and the weight is documented accurately. This encompasses material selection and innovative design

Materials Lead Design Engineer should assist the Design Engineers and Project Engineer in specifying and controlling the materials of each component to meet vehicle spec book targets, technical specifications and all legal and component DVP requirements

DFM Design for Manufacture is a fundamental requirement of the Lead Design Engineer role. Must have a demonstrable track record of working within a Design Team in harmony with suppliers.

Discussing with PD / Buyer / Supplierfor Proto Build supportability.

BOM updating

Testing\’s (DVP/PVP) Part Level, Execution / Coordination for Homologation.


Knowledge, skills & experience:

Excellent CREO PTC skills.

Leadership and motivation in a design role is essential

Proven experience of Design activities at OEM/Tier-1 with a demonstrable record of delivery of the accountabilities

Experience with the followingis mandatary: Air Intake system, Dirty air duct, Air box, Clean air duct, Engine Cover, Convolute selection,

Mountings of the system, Material selection, Work on NVH targets, CFD, CAE, DVP, DFMEA, RMDV, DFA, DFS, DFA.

Strong knowledge on plastic moulding process.

A strong track record of delivering design to timing, weight and cost targets.

Supplier liaison, comfortable with understanding and implementing DFM requirements within the project scope

A background in Industrial heavy Machinery (Diesel Gensets) would be preferable.
