At Tata Steel UK, our strength lies not only in the steel we make, but in the people who shape our journey. As we transform for a sustainable future, our Internal Audit team plays a pivotal role in driving change, strengthening governance, and ensuring we remain resilient in an ever-evolving world.
The Role
As a Senior Auditor, with a strong background in internal audit and/or financial audit you’ll organise, supervise, and conduct audits across the Tata Steel UK supply chain, including overseas sites, and, where appropriate, within the wider Tata Steel Group. You’ll provide business management, the senior leaders and the Audit Committee with independent insight into key risks, the effectiveness of internal controls, and opportunities to strengthen our systems and processes to add value to the business. This role offers real variety – from auditing high-risk areas and advising stakeholders, to mentoring junior colleagues and helping shape the way we approach audit through new tools and techniques such as data analytics and agile auditing.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and conduct audits, consulting assignments and / or specific management requests/investigations, applying professional judgement in evaluating key internal controls and providing practical, cost-effective recommendations.
- Provide high-quality reports and insights to senior stakeholders, up to and including the Board and Audit Committee.
- Advise on risk management during business system development projects.
- Support the development of junior auditors and guest auditors.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and value within the Internal Audit function.
- Build strong, influential relationships across a wide range of stakeholders across the business operations and functions including the ‘2nd line’.
What you’ll need:
- We’re looking for a qualified, experienced auditor with strong commercial and business awareness.
- You’ll need to be comfortable working across disciplines, managing complex audits, and engaging with senior stakeholders in a constructive and influential way.
- Degree (or equivalent) and membership of a recognised professional body (CIA, MIIA, QICA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CCAB or similar).
- Significant audit experience, ideally in a large, complex organisation.
- Exposure to modern audit techniques (data analytics, agile auditing, lean approaches).
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage confidently at senior levels.
- Analytical problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
