Shaping the Future of Sustainable Steelmaking
At Tata Steel, we’re embarking on one of the most significant industrial transformations in a generation. Through Project Invictus, we’re investing over £1.25 billion to transition from traditional blast furnace operations to a state-of-the-art Electric Arc Furnace – a shift that will secure a cleaner, more sustainable future for steelmaking in the UK. As a Quantity Surveyor, you’ll play a vital role in managing the commercial and contractual aspects of this once-in-a-generation project. This is an opportunity to be at the heart of a major transformation – balancing cost, risk, and value across complex infrastructure and construction packages that will shape our operations for decades to come.
What you will do:
- Lead the commercial and contractual management of large-scale construction and civil engineering workstreams within Project Invictus.
- Prepare, monitor, and report on project budgets, forecasts, and cost plans to ensure value for money.
- Oversee subcontract procurement and management from tender through to final account.
- Assess and negotiate variations, compensation events, and change orders under NEC and FIDIC contracts.
- Support claims preparation, project close-out, and commercial risk management.
- Collaborate closely with project engineers, planners, and delivery teams to maintain alignment between commercial and technical objectives.
- Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to a strong, high-performing commercial culture.
What you will need:
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
- Chartered status (RICS/CIOB) or working towards this is preferred.
- Mechanical, Piping and Electrical Instrumentation experience essential.
- Proven experience in managing the commercial aspects of major civils or heavy engineering projects.
- Strong knowledge of NEC3/4, FIDIC, or JCT contracts.
- Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- A proactive mindset and a drive to deliver outcomes that balance value, compliance, and innovation.
