Shaping the Future of Sustainable Steelmaking

At Tata Steel, we’re embarking on one of the most significant industrial transformations in a generation. Through Project Invictus, we’re investing over £1.25 billion to transition from traditional blast furnace operations to a state-of-the-art Electric Arc Furnace – a shift that will secure a cleaner, more sustainable future for steelmaking in the UK.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll play a vital role in managing the commercial and contractual aspects of this once-in-a-generation project. This is an opportunity to be at the heart of a major transformation – balancing cost, risk, and value across complex infrastructure and construction packages that will shape our operations for decades to come.

What you will do:

  • Lead the commercial and contractual management of large-scale construction and civil engineering workstreams within Project Invictus.
  • Prepare, monitor, and report on project budgets, forecasts, and cost plans to ensure value for money.
  • Oversee subcontract procurement and management from tender through to final account.
  • Assess and negotiate variations, compensation events, and change orders under NEC and FIDIC contracts.
  • Support claims preparation, project close-out, and commercial risk management.
  • Collaborate closely with project engineers, planners, and delivery teams to maintain alignment between commercial and technical objectives.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to a strong, high-performing commercial culture.

What you will need:

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered status (RICS/CIOB) or working towards this is preferred.
  • Proven experience in managing the commercial aspects of major civils or heavy engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC3/4, FIDIC, or JCT contracts.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • A proactive mindset and a drive to deliver outcomes that balance value, compliance, and innovation.

Tata Steel UK offers their employees significant benefits packages. For this role, you will benefit from:

  • A market competitive salary
  • 35 days holidays per annum
  • Annual Pay Review
  • Bonus Scheme – subject to business performance
  • Ongoing Tata Steel training, which has built a reputation as one of the best within the industry
  • One of the UK’s leading defined contribution pension schemes (10% employer contribution / 6% employee contribution)
  • Extensive lifestyle benefits including free onsite parking at all of our sites, an employee assistance programme as well as Employee discount scheme for companies including Vodafone, Jaguar Land Rover and also various local services.
