Overview
In this role you will help maintain safe, reliable operation of vital utility systems within a high-hazard energy environment.
You will support the Shift Control Engineer across steam, gas, water, compressed air and HV electrical infrastructure, delivering mechanical maintenance and contributing to plant reliability.
You will grow your knowledge of fluid power and electrical systems, and develop permit-to-work capabilities.
This position sits in the Llanwern Utilities (Energy) team, offering hands-on impact and career growth.

Responsibilities
- Carrying out mechanical maintenance, repairs, and fault-finding across Energy and Manufacturing operations
- Ensuring all work complies with Health & Safety requirements, engineering standards, and permit-to-work procedures
- Developing understanding of fluid power and electrical systems, and aiming to issue permits
- Responding to engineering, safety, and quality issues, taking corrective action or escalating as needed
- Participating fully in team activities and using skills flexibly to meet business objectives
- Working with and supervising additional resources to support maintenance activities
- Contributing to plant performance improvements through continuous improvement principles
- Supporting the Shift Control Engineer in delivering a reliable and efficient service to internal customers
- Key requirements
- Completed an approved mechanical apprenticeship with NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)
- Proven experience in a relevant mechanical maintenance role
- Understanding of fluid power systems and basic electrical principles
- Flexibility to apply or develop skills across multiple craft areas
- Strong safety awareness and experience adhering to safe systems of work
