What you will do:
We are currently looking to recruit a multi skilled (electrical bias) craftsperson for our Diesel Loco Repair Shop, Central Engineering, Port Talbot. The incumbent of the role will undertake electrical inspection and maintenance work associated with a fleet of shunter locomotives but will be expected to support other team members when required. There are 19 locomotives within the fleet of varying types from diesel electric to the latest hybrid technology. The primary duties within the recently refurbished maintenance facility will be carrying out planned maintenance, major and minor overhauls of components, fault finding and responding to locomotive breakdowns within the site. Within the role, you will work alongside the engineers, leading hands and the maintenance team (mechanical and electrical) to ensure the operational priorities of locomotive availability for production requirements.
The shift pattern involves working 1 weekend in 3 as follows: 7 days on, 2 days off, then 3 days on, 2 days off, finally 5 days on then 2 days off, this is then repeated. This is compensated by a 12.5% shift allowance and a generous holiday allowance.
What you will need:
- As the ideal candidate you will hold a City & Guilds qualification level 3 in an electrical discipline gained via a time served apprenticeship or equivalent.
- You should have familiarity with AC/DC motors and generators, PLC systems, Relays, Contactors, with a sound knowledge of 3 phase.
- Preferably you will possess BS7671 18th edition regulations certificate or be willing to undertake training to achieve this.
- You will also have experience of working on pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems which would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with the use of multifunction test equipment, and other testing tools/devices.
- The ability to follow tasks based instruction and provide clear feedback both written and verbally.
- Experience of working on vehicle/plant electrical systems.
- The ability to read and understand engineering & electrical drawings.
- Good communication skills and a strong understanding of safety and environmental impacts for the given job level.
- The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined team and possess good risk awareness when planning and undertaking tasks, and be able to challenge those who do not.
- Familiarity in the use of I.T., in particular Microsoft Office applications.
- Prior experience with SAP would be advantageous.
