We are looking for a talented Mechanical Project Engineer to join our Engineering Projects team at Shotton Works, supporting the ongoing development and enhancement of our world-class manufacturing facilities. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering capital investment projects, process improvements, and plant enhancement schemes that directly support the business strategy of Tata Steel Colors.
What You'll Do
- Manage and support projects throughout their full lifecycle – from concept development and design through to procurement, installation, commissioning, and final handover.
- Lead mechanical engineering activities associated with capital expenditure and plant improvement projects.
- Develop engineering specifications, project scopes, risk assessments, Management of Change (MOC) documentation, and HAZOP studies.
- Prepare project governance structures, plans, progress reports, and stakeholder updates in line with recognised project management methodologies.
- Manage the procurement process, including tender documentation, contractor selection, contract placement, and project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including CDM Regulations, Supply of Machinery Regulations, environmental requirements, and Tata Steel engineering standards.
- Support manufacturing and engineering teams with specialist mechanical engineering expertise.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, risks, and resources to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, suppliers, contractors, consultants, and external authorities.
- Promote and maintain the highest standards of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Process Safety performance.
What You Will Have
Essential
- Degree, HND, or HNC qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in mechanical engineering, project engineering, or project delivery within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- The ability to work collaboratively across all levels of an organisation.
- Strong decision-making and stakeholder management capabilities.
- A commitment to high standards of Health, Safety, and Environmental performance.
Desirable
- Prince2 or equivalent project management qualification.
- Experience planning and delivering capital projects.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations and their application.
- Understanding of SAP budgetary controls, capital accounts, and capital approval processes.
- Experience working with continuous strip coating lines, metallic and painted products, cold rolling, or finishing operations.
- Experience managing contractors and external suppliers.
- Experience of solid modelling software and the principles of Engineering design.
