We’re recruiting a Shift Electrical Craftsperson to join our Llanwern Utilities (Energy) department. You will help maintain the safe and reliable operation of vital utility systems, supporting the Shift Control Engineer across steam, gas, water, compressed air and high‑voltage (HV) electrical infrastructure.
What you will do
As a key member of our Energy team, you will deliver a wide range of Electrical engineering activities across site, ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with engineering and legislative requirements. You will deliver mechanical maintenance across the Energy plant and support HV and fluid power activities once trained. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out Electrical maintenance, repairs, and fault‑finding across Energy and Manufacturing operations.
- Ensuring all work complies with Health & Safety requirements, engineering standards, and permit‑to‑work procedures.
- Developing a strong understanding of fluid power and electrical systems, eventually becoming authorised to issue permits.
- Responding to engineering, safety, and quality issues, taking corrective action or escalating where required.
- Participating fully in team activities, using your skills flexibly to meet business objectives.
- Working closely with, and where required supervising, additional resources to support maintenance activities.
- Actively contributing to improvements in plant performance through continuous improvement principles.
- Supporting the Shift Control Engineer in delivering a reliable and efficient service to internal customers.
What you will need
We’re looking for a self‑motivated and technically capable craftsperson with a strong Electrical foundation and the flexibility to support wider engineering activities.
Essential Requirements
- Completed an approved Electrical apprenticeship with NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent).
- Proven experience in a relevant Electrical maintenance role.
- Understanding of fluid power systems and basic electrical principles.
- Flexibility to apply or develop skills across multiple craft areas.
- Strong safety awareness and experience adhering to safe systems of work.
Desirable Skills
- Technical specialist knowledge within an industrial or utilities environment.
- High voltage switching or maintenance experience (training will be provided if required).
- Experience contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
