What you’ll do:
- The company position is that Safety, Health and Environment is a key priority and requires a clear strategy which is consistent with the overall company policy.
- The Strategic Capex Health & Safety Manager is expected to provide the vision to develop that strategy and deliver a total service to the function.
- The development of World Class Safety, Health and Environmental standards, systems and practices within the function and their consistent application is essential, to secure the desired performance improvements.
- The preparation, validation, maintenance and compliance monitoring of safety reports submitted to the Competent Authority in accordance with the COMAH regulations.
- Establish and deploy the strategy in respect of Safety, Health and Environment which is consistent with the overall company policy and principles, specifically for Strategic Capex programmes.
- Manage activity to assess, eliminate, minimise, control, mitigate and manage major hazards and ensure compliance with CDM regulations and other key legislation such as COMAH.
- Establish best practice in the elimination, minimisation, control, mitigation and management of risk during each of the project phases and benchmark with external organisations where appropriate.
- Provide and direct a professional Safety, health and environment advisory service to the project teams that supports managers in their safety, health and environmental responsibilities and to be the recognised Tata Steel UK Limited expert in CDM regulations.
- Working with Central Health and Safety establish systems to monitor implementation and compliance with company safety, health and environmental policy and standards, reporting as necessary and advising on actions required.
- Implement appropriate H&S management systems such as risk assessments ensuring that all Projects comply with H&S standards.
- Maintain the relationship with the regulatory bodies (HSE, Competent Authority, Environment Agency) on behalf of the Strategic Capex.
- Maintain relationships with the recognised representative bodies, in respect to Safety, health and environmental matters affecting employees and contractors ensuring that all processes and personnel are compliant with the defined standards.
- Develop and implement communication forums to ensure that all stakeholders are updated regularly and promptly on environment, health and safety matters.
- Provide regular reports on environment, health and safety performance and ensure investigations are completed, and that corrective actions are implemented.
What you’ll bring:
- Extensive experience of managing large and complex construction projects of a similar scale.
- Substantial experience and knowledge of all aspects of the manufacture of relevant processes and products from raw materials through to final product.
- An extensive knowledge of Safety, Health & Environmental legal and statutory responsibilities specifically CDM regulations.
- Educated to degree standard, or equivalent with professional H&S qualifications.
- Chartered membership of a professional institution.
- Required to have high interpersonal skills and emotional maturity.
- Ability to influence as appropriate across the group on company-wide initiatives.
- Demonstrable ability in successful change management.
- Have senior line management experience in major plant and large asset base activities.
- Required to be able to shape and influence cultural behavioural change within the business through the engagement of the workforce demonstrating the Tata Leadership Values.
