As a Maintenance Fabricator / Welder, you’ll support the Engineering function by carrying out high-quality fabrication and welding activities to enable breakdown repairs and planned maintenance. Working within a team environment, you’ll help ensure equipment reliability, maximise plant availability, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to safety and quality.
What you’ll do:
- Carry out fabrication and welding repairs to support breakdown and maintenance activities
- Ensure all repairs are completed in line with recognised engineering standards and best practice
- Support maintenance teams in diagnosing issues and preventing repeat failures
- Record and feedback root causes, spare requirements, and emerging issues via maintenance systems (e.g. Pirana)
- Manage and prioritise fabrication work across the Steelpark to meet operational demands
- Interpret engineering drawings and produce high-quality fabrication work
- Participate in planned maintenance activities and continuous improvement initiatives
- Promote and comply with Tata Steel Health & Safety, environmental, and quality standards
- Conduct risk assessments and challenge unsafe practices to ensure a safe working environment
- Support and mentor apprentices and new team members
What you’ll need:
- ONC, City & Guilds, or equivalent in a relevant fabrication/welding discipline
- Proven experience in fabrication and welding within an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in welding techniques such as MIG and arc welding
- Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience of preventative maintenance and continuous improvement practices
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation (e.g. PUWER, LOLER)
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- IT literacy and experience using maintenance systems (desirable)
