We’re looking for a highly skilled Process Safety Engineer to lead process safety across our Building Systems UK site in Shotton. This is a critical role where you’ll drive safe, compliant, and efficient engineering operations while supporting plant integrity and business performance.
You’ll take ownership of process safety strategy and execution, ensuring all assets operate safely, meet legislative requirements, and continuously improve in line with business goals.
What you will do
- Lead and manage all process safety engineering activities across site operations including steel processing, roll forming, slitting, fabrication, and composite panels.
- Ensure compliance with legal, statutory, and company safety standards (e.g. PUWER, LOLER, pressure systems, HAZOP/PHA).
- Develop and maintain key safety systems, including:
- Risk Assessments (RAs)
- Safe Working Procedures (SWPs)
- Permit‑to-Work systems
- Isolation and immobilisation procedures
- Management of Change processes
- Manage contractor safety performance and ensure adherence to required standards.
- Coordinate and maintain the Process Safety System and Critical Plant Register.
- Monitor and control process safety and engineering budgets.
- Support operational continuity through collaboration with Manufacturing and Logistics teams.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (e.g. TPM programmes).
- Maintain integrity and control of critical spare parts inventories.
- Keep up to date with developments in plant design, technology, and safety practices.
What you will need
- Degree‑qualified in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Ideally Chartered Engineer status.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in process safety systems.
- Strong knowledge of HAZOP, PHA, and process safety methodologies.
- Experience with pressure systems, materials, chemicals, and related technologies.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to influence and build relationships across functions.
- Strong understanding of engineering and production technologies.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
- Experience in managing budgets, capital expenditure, and contractor relationships.
- IT proficiency including Microsoft Office, SAP/Stratix, and project management systems.
