What you will do:
- Hot Rolled Products Port Talbot is the UK’s leading supplier of Hot rolled coil, with up to 83,000 Tonnes of slab a week, processed to various thickness and grades for hundreds of different customers all over the world.
- Steel slab is reduced to coil and either sent direct to customers or for downstream processing through a highly complex and high speed rolling mill.
- You will be working within the Primary Operations work area covering the Slab Yards and Re-heat furnaces, providing a complete range of Engineering activities to optimise production in the area.
- As part of the team, you become a key member of Tata Steel, operating as the first point of contact to ensure the continued output of the Hot Mill.
The suitable candidate will:
- Have knowledge and experience working on PLC programs to diagnose faults and work on plant end devices.
- Have knowledge and experience working on instrumentation and control systems.
- Have a good understanding of electrical control systems of DC & AC drives and motors, and be able to quickly diagnose and rectify faults.
- Be authorised to issue permits (when competent) on electrical systems.
- Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety requirements and familiarise themselves with, and to implement the company Health and Safety Policy and relevant statutory duties.
- Utilise their skills to the maximum effect in support of team activities.
- React to engineering, quality and safety issues as they arise in a timely and effective manner.
- Actively contribute to all activities aimed at improving plant performance.
- Will be flexible to undertake overtime to meet business needs, typically around breakdowns and planned maintenance periods.
What you will need:
- Completed an approved Apprenticeship with a minimum of NVQ Level 3 Electrical (or equivalent).
- Can demonstrate good technical knowledge.
- Experience in a relevant position and flexibility to undertake further development and training.
- Knowledge and experience of fault finding.
- Good understanding of electrical systems and perimetry.
What would be advantageous (but not essential):
- Knowledge and experience working on PLC programs to diagnose faults and work on plant end devices and instrumentation.
- HMI development.
- Network experience.
- Low voltage authorisation.
- Experience on DC and AC control and drives packages.
- Experience working with Furnace and gas systems.
