What you will do:
- The purpose of this role is to support operations teams by performing necessary breakdown repairs, leading preventative maintenance activity and facilitating the promotion of engineering solutions for process improvement to ensure process availability and productivity are optimised.
- Promote and maintain safe working practices in accordance with Tata Steel health, safety, environmental, quality, and contractor management standards.
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on plant, processing machinery, ancillary equipment, and overhead cranes to maximise reliability, availability, and performance.
- Identify faults, perform root cause analysis, and raise corrective actions through the maintenance management system (Pirana).
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, spare parts inventory, and engineering documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Assist with training and development of operators, apprentices, and new engineers, promoting best engineering practices and autonomous maintenance.
- Support engineering teams with resource cover as required and contribute to team communication, performance improvement, and planning activities.
- Ensure accurate recording and communication of spare parts usage and maintenance-related costs.
What you will need:
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials.
- Understanding of relevant engineering legislation and standards, including PUWER and LOLER.
- Qualified in Mechanical Engineering (ONC, City & Guilds, or equivalent) with proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience in preventative maintenance, fault finding, root cause analysis, continuous improvement, and contractor management.
- Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills, with the ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to apply continuous improvement and problem-solving techniques to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including interpreting technical drawings, fault diagnosis, repairs, and modifications.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and apply mechanical engineering principles to maintenance and repair activities.
- Knowledge of isolation and immobilisation procedures and condition-based monitoring techniques.
- Experience maintaining overhead cranes and mechanical production equipment.
- Ideally would have skills in welding, and fabrication techniques to support maintenance and breakdown repairs.
- Certification or experience in operating overhead cranes, forklift trucks, and MEWPs is desirable.
