At Tata Steel’s Llanwern site, we’re looking for a Team Leader to join our Cranes & Lifting team, to ensure our auxiliary plant and infrastructure operate at peak performance. This is an exciting opportunity to combine hands‑on engineering expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of critical plant equipment in a dynamic environment.

What you will do:

As a Team Leader, you’ll play a dual role, contributing as a skilled engineer and leading a skilled team, ensuring all maintenance activities, planned repairs and breakdowns align with safety and quality standards. You’ll work closely with the Dept Engineering Manager with your work directly supporting our manufacturing operations, keeping the plant running smoothly and efficiently.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a coordinating point for the day team, ensuring safe and effective deployment of craft members and support personnel.
  • Carrying out maintenance, repair, and fault‑finding tasks while ensuring compliance with Tata Steel’s engineering standards and legislative requirements.
  • Promoting a culture of safety by enforcing risk assessments, safety contacts, and best practices, ensuring the safety of all team members.
  • Managing work priorities, coordinating resources, and maintaining SAP records to optimise maintenance activities.
  • Leading by example and supporting the development of team members by delivering on‑the‑job training and coaching.
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of engineering activities, including fault diagnosis, preventive maintenance, and team flexibility.

This role also involves deputising for the Area Engineering Manager as required, providing an excellent opportunity to build your leadership capabilities in a supportive environment.

What you will need:

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated engineer with strong technical skills and the ability to lead and inspire a team.

  • Time served Mechanical & Electrical apprenticeship with experience in the field of lifting equipment.
  • Good communication skills required, as the post holder will have to deal with all levels of personnel from shop floor to senior managers, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Be conversant with present PUWER/LOLER regulations.
  • Demonstrable leadership potential, with the ability to coordinate and motivate a team.
  • A commitment to safety, with experience promoting compliance and best practices.
  • Proven ability to plan and manage resources effectively, ensuring tasks are completed to high standards.
  • Proven ability to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency with SAP or similar systems for planning and maintenance management.

What we can offer you:
