At Tata Steel Colors, we’re looking for Automation Technicians to join our Engineering Department at Shotton Works, just 10 miles from Chester City Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a high-tech manufacturing environment, using your automation expertise to improve production efficiency, reduce downtime, and contribute to exciting new projects.

What you will do

As part of our succession planning strategy, you’ll play a key role in providing specialist engineering support to our manufacturing production lines. Your responsibilities will include:

1. Responding to plant breakdowns
2. Diagnosing faults
3. Ensuring that downtime is kept to a minimum
4. Designing, modifying, and improving plant equipment software
5. Implementing PLC code and supporting major line improvements
6. Writing and maintaining onsite electrical procedures
7. Conducting investigations into plant issues
8. Working closely with other engineers to develop innovative solutions

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working with cutting-edge automation technology, and making a real impact in a fast-paced environment.

What you will need

We’re looking for an experienced automation specialist with:

1. A time-served apprenticeship
2. HNC or higher in Electrical, Electronic, or Instrumentation disciplines
3. Experience in PLC programming, fault finding, and system optimisation within a manufacturing environment
4. Hands-on expertise with Allen Bradley Control/Compact Logix or Siemens S7 PLCs
5. Knowledge of AC/DC Inverter drives
6. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to read engineering drawings
7. Knowledge of SCADA, HMI development, and industrial communication protocols
