As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will take ownership of supplier development and performance, building capability, improving manufacturing processes and supporting reliable delivery across the supply chain. You will work closely with suppliers, manufacturing, engineering, procurement, and quality teams to identify capability gaps, resolve complex operational challenges and deliver sustainable improvements.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing and developing supplier capability, improving manufacturing processes and performance.
- Conducting supplier assessments and audits to evaluate manufacturing capability, process maturity, and compliance with quality, regulatory and customer requirements.
- Monitoring supplier performance across quality, cost, delivery, capacity, and risk indicators and driving recovery actions where targets are not achieved.
- Working with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, quality, and programme teams to deliver supplier development, industrialisation and production-readiness activities.
- Building effective supplier relationships, escalating risks when required and promoting sustainable operational excellence across the supply chain.
Key skills and knowledge required:
- Manufacturing process knowledge - Machining, Casting, Forging.
- Heat treatment processes such as solution heat treatment, ageing and case hardening.
- Surface treatment and finishing processes such as anodising, plating and painting.
- Joining and consolidation processes such as welding, brazing and sintering.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing quality, inspection methods and supplier process controls.
- Working knowledge of aerospace quality standards, including AS9100 and AS13100.
- Practical knowledge of quality and supplier development tools, including APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, 8D and root-cause analysis.
- Good knowledge of engineering drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Experience in project management, supplier development planning and operational risk management.
