TasNetworks is seeking an accomplished Construction General Manager to lead the delivery of the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD) — one of Tasmania’s most significant infrastructure programs. This senior leadership role sits at the heart of our construction delivery function, overseeing all aspects of transmission line, substation, and switching station construction across multiple regional sites.
You will provide strategic direction, operational leadership, and disciplined oversight to ensure construction activities are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in full compliance with contractual, regulatory, and environmental requirements. Acting as the critical link between senior leadership and site operations, you will drive performance across safety, quality, cost, schedule, and stakeholder engagement.
Working closely with internal teams, delivery partners, and statutory authorities, you will ensure construction readiness, resolve issues in complex environments, and maintain the high standards expected of a major state-significant infrastructure program.
What you’ll do
- Lead the construction delivery function for the NWTD program, overseeing all site activities across transmission lines, substations, and switching stations.
- Develop and implement operational strategies that ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality construction outcomes.
- Manage planning, design, procurement, and delivery oversight to maintain alignment with approved time, cost, and quality objectives.
- Navigate statutory approvals and authority requirements, securing timely clearances from councils, utilities, and development agencies.
- Audit construction contractors to ensure capability, compliance, and quality of deliverables.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across construction teams and delivery partners.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards.
- Provide leadership across multiple concurrent regional construction sites, ensuring consistency of delivery and performance.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, technical teams, and delivery partners, resolving issues in politically sensitive environments.
- Drive governance, reporting, and performance assurance across all construction workstreams.
About you
You will bring extensive senior‑level experience leading construction delivery on major infrastructure, transmission, energy, or complex capital projects. You are a strategic thinker with strong operational capability, able to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder environments.
Your background includes deep knowledge of construction management, strong analytical capability, and a proven ability to establish new processes, frameworks, and high‑performing teams in major project environments.
You’ll also bring:
- Demonstrated experience managing large‑scale, multidisciplinary construction projects.
- Strong leadership qualities with a commitment to developing high‑performing teams.
- Excellent communication skills — you translate complex information into clear insights and decisive action.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and collaborate across delivery partners.
- Experience working within regulated utility environments or government‑owned entities (advantageous).
What’s on offer
This is a full-time opportunity, fixed term for the term of the project, based in Tasmania with an attractive remuneration and benefits package. The role will be based in the North West with some intrastate travel required.
