About the role

Are you of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background and looking to kickstart or advance your career to unlock the future you? This is your chance to make a meaningful impact and contribute to renewable energy in Tasmania!

TasNetworks are on the lookout for energetic individuals who enjoy working in a team environment to join our Apprenticeship Program. Commencing in February 2026, our apprenticeship programs provide the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised trade qualification.

Learning from skilled and dedicated tradespeople, you will be exposed to –

  • A combination of theory and hands-on learning, delivered by TasNetworks’ own Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
  • On-site field work at various job sites in the region (South, North, North-West)
  • Inspection of overhead structures and electrical apparatus
  • Locating and rectifying faults on the distribution network
  • Installing and maintaining public lighting, overhead conductors and cables
  • Conducting low voltage (LV) and high voltage (HV) switching operations

We have multiple trade apprenticeships available, across a range of our major and regional depots in Tasmania –

  • Distribution Lineworker (over 4 years, gaining a Certificate III in ESI Distribution Overhead (UET30621)) – Cambridge, Rocherlea and St Marys
  • Transmission Lineworker (over 4 years, gaining a Certificate III in ESI Transmission Overhead (UET30521)) – Cambridge and Devonport
  • Dual Trade – is it essential that you are currently a qualified Electrician (over 2 years, gaining a Certificate III in ESI Distribution Overhead (UET30621)) – New Norfolk, Scottsdale, Smithton and Queenstown
  • Electrical Technician (over 4 years, gaining a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (UEE30820)) – Cambridge, Rocherlea and Devonport

About you

First and foremost, you will be passionate about building your career whilst making a meaningful difference in your community.

To be eligible to participate in our Apprenticeship Program, you must have the ability to work towards completion of the relevant trade Certificate, adhere to health,safety and environmental practices in the workplace, possess strong communication skills and be able to build positive relationships with peers, leaders and our customers.

You will need to be physically fit and able to pass a pre-employment medical examination and hold a current provisional drivers\’ licence by commencement date in February 2026.

You will need tohave completed Year 12 and passed Maths, English and preferably a Science subject,OR havecompleted pre-vocational studies in Certificate II in Electrotechnology (or equivalent) ORhave relevant work experience to be eligible.
