About The Role

We are seeking a skilled Network Engineer to join our dynamic Infrastructure Team within the Metropolitan Police. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting and enhancing the agency’s complex network systems that underpin critical surveillance and operational policing activities across London. As part of a specialist group of engineers, you will design, develop, deploy, and maintain a variety of network solutions that ensure seamless communication, data security, and operational efficiency. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on high-profile projects that directly impact public safety, requiring technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to network management.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in network engineering, with hands-on experience in installing, configuring, and supporting network equipment. Candidates should have a comprehensive understanding of network performance monitoring and troubleshooting complex connectivity issues. A full UK driving licence is essential, and the willingness to obtain C1/D1 licences is preferred. Candidates must either hold or be willing to obtain SC(e) security clearance due to the sensitive nature of the systems involved. Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are highly desirable. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and flexibility to support operational demands outside standard hours are also required.

Responsibilities

As a Network Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Installing, configuring, and supporting a wide range of network hardware and software to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Monitoring network performance metrics and proactively resolving connectivity issues to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.
  • Designing and implementing network solutions that meet the evolving needs of policing and surveillance operations.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and deploy secure, scalable, and resilient network infrastructures.
  • Maintaining documentation of network configurations, procedures, and incident reports to ensure compliance and facilitate troubleshooting.
  • Supporting operational activities, including occasional work outside standard hours, to meet urgent operational demands.
  • Ensuring adherence to security protocols and standards, including obtaining necessary security clearances.

Benefits

The Metropolitan Police offers a comprehensive benefits package to support our employees’ well-being and career development. This includes a competitive starting salary of £55,662, which includes allowances, with annual increases until reaching the top of the scale at £57,417. Additional allowances include a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.
