KEY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The post holders are responsible for supporting the Arts and Events Technical Officer with all aspects of the technical management of the arts and other events at Lagan Valley Island and other Council facilities and for technical operation of audio visual equipment. The person shall have a working knowledge of digital sound systems, digital lighting systems, have a working knowledge of live sound, lighting and AV for concerts and conferences. The person appointed may be expected to erect, dismantle and move heavy equipment and to work at height to rig equipment. The post holder will assume any other duties relevant to the post as reasonably allocated by the Arts & Events Technical Officer and will participate in the interchange of duties to cover for staff breaks, sickness, leave and staff vacancies etc.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To undertake as required the design of lighting, sound, projection and staging for the Council's programme of performances, events, conferences, meetings, assisting with the maintenance of all performance related equipment.
- To assist with the organisation of the technical requirements for incoming companies and artists and to be the interface between external clients and Council staff on this, recording appropriate information.
- Responsibility for ensuring that staff, users and volunteers are acquainted with appropriate technical details and public responsibilities including regular Health & Safety inductions, and evacuation procedures.
- To assist Arts Centre staff and hirers in all aspects of technical arts support services to include the preparation of rooms and exhibitions including the handling, storing, packing, lighting and hanging of exhibitions and ensuring all rooms are ready for use.
- To assist in supervising, scheduling and monitoring the work and conduct of technical workers and volunteers whilst in Lagan Valley Island.
- Monitor the safe condition and continued operational effectiveness of all technical equipment and facilities, recommend and cost replacement as required and assist in ensuring maintenance of an inventory of technical equipment/supplies.
- Ensure all Health & Safety legislation and Council Health & Safety policies and procedures are complied with in relation to the services and activities within Lagan Valley Island and at other facilities where working.
- To ensure that quality standards, work instructions and records in accordance with approved Quality Accreditation systems are followed and monitored.
JOB SPECIFICATION:
It is essential that candidates have:
- 2 A-levels (Grades A-C) or a relevant NVQ level 3, or equivalent.
- Three years' experience in one of the following areas:
- Technical operation, programming and maintenance of sound systems used in musical performance including the use of digital mixing consoles and related software.
- Technical operation, programming and maintenance of lighting systems used in stage performance including the use of computer-controlled consoles and related software.
- A working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements at events.
- A working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of packages.
- Use of a car and a current driving licence.
Where applicants do not hold a qualification as outlined above, they must demonstrate a minimum of five years' experience as outlined.
It is desirable that candidates have:
- Two years' experience in both of the areas as outlined above.
