We’re representing a leading UK energy infrastructure contractor delivering complex transmission and renewable projects nationwide. Their work includes the design, build and commissioning of substations and associated infrastructure up to 400kV, playing a critical role in strengthening the UK’s energy network. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to oversee commercial delivery on a major National Grid project based in South Yorkshire.
The Role
As Commercial Manager, you’ll take responsibility for leading the commercial function across a portfolio of transmission projects, working closely with operational and delivery teams to maximise performance, reduce risk and drive project profitability. You’ll manage and support the wider commercial team (MQS, QS and AQS), embedding strong commercial processes across site operations while maintaining close relationships with project and business unit leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the commercial strategy across live transmission projects
- Managing and mentoring commercial teams across multiple project packages
- Overseeing subcontractor management, valuations and cost/value reconciliation
- Preparing and reviewing reports, forecasts and claims to agreed timescales
- Identifying, managing and mitigating commercial risks and opportunities
- Supporting project teams with contract administration and change control
- Driving improvements in commercial processes and reporting accuracy
- Ensuring compliance with contractual, financial and governance requirements
- Building strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders
About You
- Proven experience in a Commercial Manager or Senior QS-level role within infrastructure or construction
- Strong background managing multi-million-pound projects and subcontractor packages
- Experience within utilities, transmission or major infrastructure (beneficial but not essential)
- Strong understanding of contract law, cost control and commercial reporting
- Experience capturing variations, managing claims and supporting project delivery teams
- Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Highly analytical with strong financial and commercial awareness
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent experience)
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
