The Role
You’ll act as a senior technical authority within the practice, supporting multiple studios and project teams. Working closely with project leaders and partners, you’ll embed technical excellence, buildability and compliance across all RIBA stages, while helping shape internal standards, processes and knowledge-sharing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing specialist technical leadership across multiple live projects
- Leading structured technical reviews and gateway checks at key RIBA stages
- Advising on Building Regulations, Building Safety Act compliance and fire safety strategy
- Acting as (or advising) the Principal Designer under CDM and Building Regulations
- Championing buildability, product suitability and whole-life performance
- Supporting construction stages through inspections, RFIs and technical risk resolution
- Developing technical standards, QA systems and guidance notes
- Delivering internal CPD, mentoring and upskilling teams across studios
- Contributing to bids, client presentations and external technical leadership
Technical Focus
Candidates will bring deep expertise in at least two of the following areas:
- Fire & life safety
- Building Regulations and Building Safety Act compliance
- External envelopes, moisture risk and façade systems
- Ventilation, overheating and indoor air quality
- Sustainability, energy performance and embodied carbon
- MMC, modular and off-site construction
Strong knowledge of NBS specifications, warranty requirements, envelope physics and ISO 19650/BIM workflows is highly advantageous.
About You
- ARB registered Architect or MCIAT Chartered Architectural Technologist
- Typically 10+ years post-qualification experience in technical design and delivery
- Proven track record leading technical delivery on UK residential-led or mixed-use projects (RIBA 3–6)
- Strong working knowledge of procurement routes, including design & build
- Confident influencing teams, chairing reviews and advising senior stakeholders
- Passionate about regulation, safety, quality and continuous improvement
- Calm, authoritative and collaborative in approach
Why This Role?
This is a genuinely strategic position within a design-led practice that takes technical excellence, safety and sustainability seriously.
