We’re representing a major national energy infrastructure contractor delivering critical transmission and renewable connection projects across the UK. Their Transmission & Renewables division plays a key role in strengthening grid resilience and enabling the transition to net zero. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Planning Manager to lead programme delivery across complex Overhead Line (OHL) projects. This is a senior planning leadership role offering influence across live project delivery and future tender strategy.

The Role

As Planning Manager, you’ll take ownership of programme development, controls and reporting across multiple transmission projects. Working closely with Project Managers, commercial teams and clients, you’ll ensure delivery programmes are robust, compliant and aligned to operational and commercial objectives. You’ll also lead and develop a team of planners, embedding best practice programme management and fostering a high-performance planning culture across the business.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and managing Primavera P6 project programmes
  • Leading planning strategy across OHL transmission projects
  • Producing progress tracking, reporting and programme analysis
  • Integrating cost systems to support CPI/SPI performance reporting
  • Supporting tender planning and bid-stage programme development
  • Attending client, project and site progress meetings
  • Ensuring compliance with ISO and OHSAS planning standards
  • Driving continuous improvement across planning processes
  • Managing, mentoring and developing Planners and Senior Planners

About You

  • Significant planning/project controls experience within construction or infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of Overhead Lines and Electrical Transmission projects
  • Advanced Primavera P6 capability
  • Detailed understanding of cost loading and earned value reporting
  • Strong NEC3 / NEC4 contract knowledge, particularly change control
  • Understanding of construction sequencing and delivery methodologies
  • Commercially aware with strong financial and programme insight
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Experience leading and developing planning teams
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally
