Enthusiastic accountant required to join the leadership team at Southwestern Distillery Limited, the creator of Tarquin's Gin, Twin Fin Rum and Connie Glaze Vodka.
Who are we? We're an ambitious independent distillery that started in 2012 and ranked the 29th fastest growing company in the UK in 2019 from the Sunday Times FastTrack 100. We're now a team of over 50. We produce one of the leading gin brands in the UK along with three rapidly growing challenger rum, vodka and whisky brands. We export to over 30 countries, we have 7 retail shops and have exciting plans for growth.
Where do you fit in? You will work out of distillery HQ in Cornwall. Report directly to Tarquin, the company founder and as a key member of the company leadership team be a very strong communicator.
What are we looking for?
- Qualifications & Experience
- 8+ years accounting experience
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
- Experience with batch manufacturing or consumer goods
- Technical Skills
- Advanced Excel (SUMIFS, LOOKUPS, INDEX, MATCH, PIVOT TABLES)
- Strong ability to learn systems and manipulate data (Xero, Unleashed, A2X, Shopify, Vend)
- Power Query, Power Pivot and Power BI experience desirable
- Personal Attributes
- Effective communicator who can interpret financial data for non-financial managers
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude
- Analytical mindset with ability to dive into raw data
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Finance
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual budgets/forecasts
- Produce monthly management accounts including P&L, cashflow, variance analysis and commentary
- Lead monthly forecasts and KPI reviews with leadership team
- Evaluate capital investment requirements and business performance
- Support business strategy formulation and high-level commercial decisions
- Financial Operations
- Produce monthly management accounts (journals, accruals, prepayments)
- Manage fixed asset registers and balance sheet reconciliations
- Oversee control account reconciliations and system integrations
- Liaise with external accountants on statutory accounts
- Ensure tax compliance and monitor aged debtors/creditors
- Provide detailed cashflow analysis and forecasting
- Commercial Support
- Prepare sales reports (net sales, gross margin by brand/product/channel)
- Produce retail shop P&L and commercial KPIs
- Develop new product costings and NPD projections
- Support commercial tenders, international business development and range rationalization projects
- Operations Finance
- Report on production KPIs (output, efficiency, downtime, inventory, wastage)
- Own absorption costing methodology and monthly overheads reconciliation
- Budget and forecast cost of goods
- Analyse purchase price variances and financial impact of supplier/material changes
- Evaluate distribution metrics and operational decisions
- Governance
- Implement and monitor financial controls, procedures and risk management
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations
- Maintain integrity of system integrations
