The Bitumen Logistics Specialist serves as the operational focal point for day-to-day bitumen transport operations within Tarmac's logistics function. The role is responsible for coordinating routine logistics activities, acting as the primary point of contact for transport providers and asphalt plants, and ensuring a reliable and efficient delivery service to customers.
The position plays a key role in maintaining accurate operational and financial records, reconciling supplier purchases and haulage invoices, and producing reporting and analysis to support operational and commercial decision-making. Working closely with the Bitumen Logistics Manager, Terminal Operations & Technical Lead, Finance teams, transport providers, and asphalt plant operations, the role contributes to continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and business performance across the bitumen logistics network.
Key Accountabilities
- Act as the primary operational contact for transport providers, managing day-to-day logistics issues, coordinating resolutions, and escalating complex matters where appropriate.
- Liaise with Tarmac asphalt plants regarding orders, delivery schedules, and operational requirements to ensure a consistent and reliable customer service experience.
- Accurately process and enter daily delivery ticket information, validating loaded and delivered quantities and ensuring alignment with supplier invoicing.
- Reconcile monthly inland bitumen purchases from third-party suppliers and analyse haulage invoices, ensuring accurate charging, invoice matching, and timely payment.
- Monitor logistics volumes against budget and forecast, identify variances, and provide analysis to support financial and operational performance reviews.
- Produce regular performance reports covering logistics activity, costs, and volumes, highlighting trends, risks, exceptions, and improvement opportunities.
- Support the Bitumen Logistics Manager with management information and business insight for monthly and quarterly performance reviews.
- Identify and support opportunities to simplify processes, improve efficiency, and assist with the implementation of new systems, operating procedures, and haulage contract transitions.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with transport providers, asphalt plants, finance teams, and other internal stakeholders.
- Communicate proactively regarding operational issues, service disruptions, delays, and changes to ensure effective stakeholder management.
- Provide operational support and holiday cover where required to ensure continuity of service.
