At Tarmac, who you are matters. We are currently looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Asphalt Performance Manager to join our National Performance team within Contracting. This is a highly influential national role focused on driving innovation, performance improvement, and operational excellence across our asphalt and contracting business. Working at the forefront of paving technology and decarbonisation, you will play a key role in shaping the future of the industry through initiatives such as Roads of the Future, high-specification paving projects, and continuous improvement programmes.

As the national lead for paving innovation and performance optimisation, you will work closely with operational teams, technical specialists, suppliers, customers and senior stakeholders to improve quality, efficiency and value across the end-to-end asphalt production and paving process. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives on driving change, influencing stakeholders and delivering measurable business improvements in a dynamic operational environment.

What You'll Be Doing

As Asphalt Performance Manager, you will be responsible for leading innovation, continuous improvement and operational performance initiatives across our contracting business. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and developing PaveTech solution opportunities with key customers and regional teams
  • Supporting the delivery of strategic programmes, including the Roads of the Future initiative and wider decarbonisation projects
  • Evaluating new materials, suppliers, plant and equipment innovations to support future-focused paving solutions
  • Driving a continuous improvement culture through coaching, mentoring and the implementation of best practice across operational teams
  • Delivering targeted efficiency improvement projects and ensuring improvements are sustained across quality, service and operational performance
  • Using performance data and dashboards to challenge, support and improve business results at all levels of the organisation
  • Supporting regional teams with high-specification paving projects including racetracks, airfields and low-carbon demonstration schemes
  • Reviewing and enhancing operational processes, standards and the National Contracting Operational Handbook
  • Working collaboratively with supply chain partners to optimise plant, labour, haulage and operational resources while reducing delays and inefficiencies
  • Acting as a champion for safety, ensuring policies, procedures and legislative requirements are fully embedded and communicated across the business

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a driven and commercially minded leader who combines operational expertise with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong project management experience with the ability to deliver complex improvement programmes
  • Proven leadership, coaching and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence teams and stakeholders at all levels
  • A track record of successfully implementing change within operational or construction-related environments
  • A strong continuous improvement mindset and experience of lean methodologies
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to identify opportunities that improve value, efficiency and business performance
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • An innovative approach and the ability to think strategically about future industry developments
  • Knowledge of the construction materials, contracting or asphalt industry, including products, processes and operational best practices
  • Strong financial and numerical acumen
  • The ability to build effective relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to use performance data to drive decision-making

A qualification in Continuous Improvement or Lean methodologies (such as Six Sigma) would be advantageous, although not essential.
