The predicted salary is between 60000 - 75000 £ per year.

Provide strategic and operational leadership to the North Readymix technical function, ensuring the highest standards of safety, product quality, and compliance. Drive technical excellence to support commercial growth, particularly through value-added product (VAP) development, while improving operational efficiency, sustainability performance, and customer satisfaction. This role is integral to delivering innovation, enabling major project success, and strengthening the business’s competitive position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a zero-harm culture and lead by example in all HSE matters.
  • Embed best practice across the technical and wider Readymix teams.
  • Ensure all technical activities support safe systems of work and environmental compliance.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing technical team across the region.
  • Build capability, succession, and engagement within the technical function.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure full compliance with BS EN 206, BS 8500, and company quality standards.
  • Oversee mix design optimisation to maximise performance, efficiency, and cost control.
  • Drive improvements in plant performance through data-led analysis and intervention.
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of quality issues, complaints, and non-conformances.
  • Partner with commercial teams to identify and deliver profitable growth opportunities.
  • Drive the development and adoption of Value-Added Products (VAPs).
  • Provide technical expertise to support tenders, specifications, and major project delivery.
  • Strengthen customer relationships through proactive technical engagement and problem-solving.
  • Promote lower-carbon concrete solutions and sustainable material usage.
  • Support delivery of decarbonisation and circular economy initiatives.
  • Identify and implement innovative materials, technologies, and processes.
  • Act as a key member of the regional management team, contributing to business strategy and performance.
  • Work cross-functionally with operations, commercial, logistics, and procurement teams.
  • Engage with customers, specifiers, contractors, and industry bodies to enhance reputation and influence.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Significant experience within the Readymix Concrete or wider construction materials industry.
  • Strong technical expertise in concrete technology, materials, and standards.
  • Proven leadership experience managing technical or operational teams.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence business performance.
  • Data-driven mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.

Desirable

  • Chartered status or professional accreditation (e.g. Institute of Concrete Technology).
  • Experience supporting major infrastructure or large-scale construction projects.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and low-carbon concrete technologies.
