Materials Testing Technician – Ready Mixed Concrete (RMX) Sites across West Midlands. Are you experienced in sampling and testing ready mixed concrete? Do you thrive in a site‑based role rather than working in a lab all day? If you care about quality, safety, and getting things right the first time, this could be the role for you.
The Role
We’re looking for a Materials Testing Technician (Ready Mixed Concrete) to join our RMX technical team at the Coventry Concrete Plant. Reporting to the Technical Manager, you’ll play a key role in maintaining concrete quality and compliance, carrying out sampling and testing across Coventry and the Midlands. This is a hands‑on, operational role, working at both Tarmac and customer sites – not a traditional lab‑based position. The role also supports our concrete plants across the West Midlands and is easily commutable from Coventry, Leicester, Nuneaton, Bedworth, Kenilworth, Leamington Spa, Warwick, Solihull, Rugby, Hinckley, Tamworth and surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Sampling and testing ready‑mixed concrete products in line with British Standards
- Ensuring all sampling procedures are followed, understood, and fully documented
- Monitoring product quality for both internal and external customers
- Identifying quality issues and escalating them to the Technical Manager, supporting resolution
- Assisting with investigations into quality complaints and queries
- Visiting other Tarmac sites when required to support sampling and testing activity
- Working safely at all times, including manual handling within personal capability
- Maintaining full compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental procedures
What We’re Looking For
- You’ll ideally have experience gained in a ready mixed concrete sampling and testing environment or alternatively a site‑based technical role within construction, aggregates, or concrete production.
- A strong work ethic and self‑motivation
- Good communication skills with colleagues, managers, and external stakeholders
- Confidence to work independently but also as part of a wider technical team
- Attention to detail and the ability to spot potential risks or non‑conformances
- Confidence working independently across multiple sites
- Basic IT skills and strong numerical ability (calculations and result interpretation)
- A flexible approach to work and travel
- A clear commitment to health and safety
Full training and development will be provided where needed.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Hands‑on, varied work – no two days are the same
- A small, supportive technical team environment
- Opportunity to work across multiple sites and broaden your experience
- A vital role supporting concrete quality on live operational sites
