Job Introduction

HGV Fitter

Build the Future with Tarmac

Are you a skilled HGV Fitter looking for a role where your expertise is valued, every day brings variety, and you'll be part of a team that keeps the UK's road network moving?

At Tarmac, we’re looking for an experienced and motivated HGV Fitter to join our National Road Planning (NRP) team based in Rand, Lincolnshire (LN8 5NJ), close to Lincoln. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a business that values collaboration, inclusion, safety, and continuous improvement.

At Tarmac, we believe that who you are matters. We are committed to creating an environment where people can thrive, develop their careers, and make a real impact. If you take pride in delivering high-quality work, enjoy solving problems, and are passionate about maintaining specialist fleet equipment, we’d love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and supporting the NRP fleet, ensuring vehicles remain safe, compliant, and operational across the UK road network. While primarily workshop-based, there will be occasions where you’ll attend breakdowns and provide support on-site.

  • Carrying out planned servicing, inspections, maintenance, and repairs in line with manufacturer specifications and company procedures
  • Diagnosing faults and undertaking reactive maintenance to minimise vehicle downtime
  • Recording all maintenance activities, labour hours, and parts used through company systems
  • Raising requirements for parts and stock replenishment while supporting effective inventory management
  • Completing job documentation accurately for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities
  • Supporting preventative maintenance programmes and identifying opportunities to improve fleet reliability
  • Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards and ensuring work areas remain clean, safe, and compliant with 5S principles
  • Providing breakdown support when required, including participation in out-of-hours call-out activities depending on experience

What We Are Looking For

We’re seeking a proactive and dependable individual with a strong mechanical background and a passion for delivering high standards of workmanship.

You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience working as an HGV Fitter, Maintenance Technician, Plant Fitter, or within a similar maintenance environment
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good understanding of operational mobile plant and vehicle maintenance practices
  • A full UK manual driving licence with no more than six penalty points
  • A commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement

It would also be advantageous if you have:

  • An LGV (HGV) licence
  • Previous plant fitting experience
