We are looking for a General Operative to join the team at our Elstow Aggregates and Asphalt site in Bedfordshire. Within this role you will work on the day-to-day operations driving mobile plant and carrying out other site duties. You will work with the team to the site plan, ensuring that all stocks are maintained and replenished in good time, while keeping housekeeping around site to a high standard.
Main Responsibilities
- Operating mobile plant on site
- Working with other members of the team to ensure that customers receive good-quality material and on-time deliveries
- Assisting the Supervisor with meeting daily and weekly production targets
- Following SHE (Safety, Health & Environmental) policies and procedures
- Ensuring plant conforms with safety requirements at all times
- Carrying out health, safety, environmental and quality responsibilities
- Conducting inspections on plant, identifying defects, and implementing remedial actions
- Ensuring that plant availability is maximised
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping across the site
This position requires flexibility and adaptability, with overtime available to meet site production requirements, as the operation runs on a 24/7 basis. Please note this role requires shift working over two shifts:
- 2 weeks of day shifts: 6:00am – 3:30pm
- 2 weeks of night shifts: 7:00pm – 4:00am
The Ideal Candidate
- Knowledge of Aggregates / Asphalt / Readymix (RMX) operations or experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment (desirable)
- Previous experience in mobile or plant operations (highly desirable)
- Shovel licence (highly desirable)
- Good timekeeping and flexibility to meet quarry/site requirements
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to raise issues with management
- Basic IT literacy
- Full UK manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points
Previous experience within a Plant, Quarry, Heavy or Industrial Manufacturing environment is beneficial, but not essential, as full training will be provided to the right candidate.
Location
The role is based at the Tarmac Elstow Aggregates and Asphalt Plant in Bedfordshire. The site is easily accessible from Bedford, Kempston, Wixams, Ampthill, Flitwick, Luton, Dunstable, Milton Keynes, Sandy, and surrounding areas.
