Are you an experienced mechanical fitter looking to take ownership in a fast-paced, heavy industrial environment? At Tarmac, we are looking for a skilled and proactive Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter to join our engineering team at Clitheroe Quarry. This is a key role supporting multiple sites across the Lancashire region, focused on maintaining plant performance, minimising downtime, and driving continuous improvement.

The Role

As a Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of quarry and plant equipment. You will work across sites, responding to breakdowns, delivering planned maintenance, and supporting improvement projects within a dynamic operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across mobile plant
  • Respond to plant breakdowns, restoring equipment to service safely and efficiently
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and implement robust, long-term solutions
  • Support and deliver small engineering and improvement projects
  • Work collaboratively with contractors and site teams
  • Contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities
  • Undertake welding and fabrication to a high standard
  • Follow risk assessments and safe systems of work at all times
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using CMMS systems
  • Promote and uphold high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance

What You’ll Bring

You will be a practical, self-motivated engineer with experience in heavy industry or a similar environment, with a strong focus on safety and plant performance. You will also have:

  • A recognised mechanical apprenticeship
  • Experience in quarrying, industrial plant, or manufacturing environments
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capability
  • Proven ability to carry out effective breakdown repairs
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Basic IT skills (maintenance systems and reporting)
  • A solid understanding of health and safety practices

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of mobile crushers, conveyors, motors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, belt sand vibratory screens
