We are currently looking for a Maintenance Fitter to join our fantastic team located at Tarmac Tunstead Quarry, Buxton, Derbyshire. As well as Buxton this role is easily accessible from Derby, Macclesfield, Stockport, Glossop, Chesterfield, Leek, Ashbourne, Bakewell, Sheffield, Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas.

Main ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, the role of Maintenance Fitter will support the Stone Maintenance team by ensuring all mechanical tasks are prioritised on a day-to-day basis ensuring any reactive tasks are resolved so the plant is operational again in a timely and safe manner whilst still completing priority planned tasks.
Your responsibilities as the Maintenance Fitter will include:
- Supporting the Lead Maintenance Fitter by delivering mechanical maintenance activities across the quarry to satisfy customer demand
- Ensuring compliance with mechanical safety regulations and company standards
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults in heavy machinery, conveyors, and plant systems
- Supporting the installation and commissioning of new equipment
- Supporting the training and mentoring of less experienced Fitters and Apprentices
- Participating in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
- Liaising with external contractors and suppliers when needed
The ideal candidate for the role of Maintenance Fitter will possess strong technical knowledge of industrial mechanical systems and working experience with PLCs, motors, control panels, and instrumentation preferably gained within the Limestone processing industry.
Suitable candidates for the role of Maintenance Fitter will also have:
- Proven fault finding and preventative maintenance skills
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems) and MS Office applications
- Ability to motivate colleagues to help develop a strong team
- Confidence and capability to deliver against KPIs
- Knowledge of RCA techniques
- Ability to collaborate with the wider business to share best practice and learn from others
- Excellent interpersonal skills: supportive, builds trust and respect at all levels
- Able to solve problems in a systematic way using all the resources available
- Drive to eliminate unsafe behaviours and attitudes and for the continuous improvement of plant working conditions
- HNC in Mechanical engineering and maintenance (or equivalent qualification/experience)
- NEBOSH or IOSH qualification advantageous
