We are currently seeking a dynamic Maintenance Manager to join the team at our cement plant in Buxton, Derbyshire. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this role is a key member of the Management Team and is instrumental in shaping the success and strategic direction of the plant.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage monthly and annual maintenance budgets and forecasts, ensuring optimal plant efficiency, reliability, and safety.
- Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities to minimise downtime while driving continuous improvement initiatives and asset performance.
- Lead crossâfunctional collaboration, including working with the Purchasing Manager to oversee critical spare parts inventory and engineering working capital.
- Plan and execute plant shutdowns from inception to completion, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.
- Act as a change leader, ensuring timely and budgetâconscious delivery of maintenance objectives while coaching teams through transitions.
Health, Safety, Environment & Quality
- Champion a culture of safety and environmental excellence, aligned with company and plant objectives.
- Promote adherence to the 16 Life Saving Rules and drive the achievement of a Zero Harm workplace.
- Lead by example to embed sustainable Health & Safety practices across all operations.
Planning, Monitoring & Reporting
- Drive improvements in plant availability, performance, and cost efficiency through the implementation of Tarmac maintenance best practices.
- Facilitate crossâfunctional collaboration to ensure consistency, eliminate inefficiencies, and accelerate learning.
- Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Pareto analysis, and defect elimination initiatives to address operational losses.
- Manage and optimise the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to support proactive maintenance strategies.
Leadership & Team Development
- Foster a highâperforming, collaborative maintenance team culture.
- Manage recruitment, retention, and succession planning to build a resilient and skilled workforce.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to support the professional development of direct reports.
The plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This role requires a high degree of flexibility to ensure the continuous and effective operation of the facility, which may include working night shifts, weekends, and Bank Holidays, as well as being available onâcall when necessary.
Qualifications & Experience
- Engineering degree or equivalent.
- NEBOSH accreditation.
- Proven experience within industrial or operational areas of cement manufacturing.
- Experience preparing forecasts and maintenance budgets (monthly and annually).
- Experience coordinating and managing the efficiencies of all aspects of maintenance.
- Management certification â HNC/HND/ILM/CMI.
- Knowledge and experience of Root Cause Analysis techniques.
- Heavy engineering experience at a senior level.
- Thorough understanding of the manufacturing process.
- Involvement in Continuous Improvement techniques.
- Project management experience.
The role is based in Buxton, Derbyshire. The site is easily accessible from Macclesfield, Sheffield, Matlock, Chesterfield, Rotherham, Huddersfield, Oldham, Stockport, Warrington and the surrounding areas.
