Shape the future of UK infrastructure. We are seeking an exceptional Business Development Director – UK Materials to lead and execute our growth strategy across one of the most dynamic and strategically important infrastructure markets in Europe. This senior leadership role is responsible for identifying, shaping and securing high‑value opportunities across transport, energy (including wind and nuclear), defence, water and complex infrastructure projects. You will position the business at the forefront of national investment priorities, ensuring long‑term value creation, sustainable growth and competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and lead the UK Materials business development strategy, aligned to long‑term growth ambitions and government infrastructure investment plans.
  • Growth, Revenue & Profitability: Build and maintain a robust pipeline of high‑value opportunities, overseeing bids, tenders and business cases that deliver sustainable EBITDA growth.
  • Where to Play & How to Win: Identify priority markets, customer segments and value propositions, aligning commercial, operational and policy levers to secure advantage at scale.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Build trusted, long‑term relationships with major clients, developers, contractors and partners, and represent the business at industry forums and public consultations.
  • Key Accounts & Major Projects: Oversee national key accounts and major frameworks, ensuring proactive engagement, strong governance and consistently high win rates.
  • Leadership & Capability Building: Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing team, setting clear KPIs and fostering collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Governance, Risk & Reporting: Provide clear insight to the Executive Committee on pipeline health, market intelligence and strategic risk, ensuring strong compliance and ethical standards.

About You

You are a strategic, commercially astute leader with a strong track record of winning and delivering major infrastructure opportunities. You bring credibility at executive level and thrive in complex, ambiguous environments. Extensive senior‑level experience in business development or commercial leadership within infrastructure, construction, energy or construction materials. A proven ability to shape strategy and convert opportunity into profitable growth. Strong understanding of public policy, regulation and government‑led investment programmes. An influential communication style, with the presence to engage senior clients, boards and industry leaders. A collaborative, inclusive leadership approach with a clear “hunter” mindset. Degree‑qualified (Business, Engineering or related discipline preferred).
