Are you an experienced construction lawyer looking to make a real impact across major infrastructure and construction projects? Tarmac, a CRH company, is seeking a Legal Counsel – Construction to provide expert legal leadership across a wide variety of high value, complex and business critical work. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a respected in‑house legal team, partnering closely with Quantity Surveyors, Commercial and Operational leaders, senior stakeholders and the wider CRH legal network. You’ll play a key role in shaping contracting strategy, resolving disputes, supporting governance, and enabling successful project delivery across the UK.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Advise on NEC, JCT, FIDIC and other key construction contract suites.
  • Lead construction disputes, including adjudications and complex payment issues.
  • Support project structuring, capex activity and commercial negotiations.
  • Assess contractual risk and guide Quantity Surveyors, Commercial and Operations teams.
  • Strengthen governance, compliance and contract management processes.
  • Deliver training that improves capability across the business.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEx in England & Wales.
  • Strong background in construction law (contentious and noncontentious).
  • Experience advising on NEC, JCT and associated contract forms.
  • Proven involvement in construction disputes, including adjudications and claims.
  • Experience partnering with Commercial, QS and Operational teams.
  • Ability to manage and direct external counsel effectively.

Desirable: FIDIC/ICE exposure, experience with JV or alliance models, previous in‑house construction or infrastructure experience.
