We are currently looking for an Operative to join our team at our Alrewas site, supporting our tarmac and pavement solutions operations. The site is easily accessible from Burton upon Trent, Lichfield, Tamworth, Cannock, Derby, and surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities

As the successful Operative, you will report to the Site Supervisor / Foreperson and play a key role in delivering high-quality surfacing works. You will support day-to-day site operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for (not exhaustive):

  • Supporting asphalt / tarmac laying operations on site
  • Assisting with groundworks and pavement preparation, including excavation and reinstatement
  • Operating a variety of plant and equipment (where trained), such as rollers, pavers, and small tools
  • Carrying out manual handling tasks associated with surfacing works
  • Ensuring materials are prepared and applied in line with specification and quality standards
  • Supporting with traffic management setup and site safety controls
  • Conducting daily health, safety, and environmental checks
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping on site
  • Working collaboratively with the wider team to meet project deadlines and customer expectations
  • Attending team briefings and contributing to a positive safety culture
The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role within surfacing, construction, or groundworks and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, site-based environment. You will also have:

  • Previous experience in tarmac / asphalt surfacing or groundworks (desirable)
  • A strong understanding of health and safety practices within a construction environment
  • A proactive and reliable approach to work
  • The ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions effectively
  • A CSCS card (preferred)
  • Experience operating plant equipment (e.g. rollers, pavers) (beneficial)
  • A flexible approach to working hours, including occasional early starts or overtime
