We're looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Inspector to join our team at Tunstead Stone - one of the UK's largest and most technically advanced quarry operations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in quarrying, aggregates, mining, cement, manufacturing, recycling or other process industries to play a key role in maintaining critical fixed and mobile plant assets.
The Role
- Working closely with maintenance, engineering and operational teams, you will monitor plant condition, identify defects and support proactive maintenance strategies to minimise downtime and improve reliability.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carrying out planned inspections of fixed plant equipment, including crushers, screens, conveyors, pumps, motors and gearboxes.
- Inspecting mobile plant and identifying wear, defects and deterioration.
- Producing inspection reports and recommending corrective actions.
- Supporting preventative, predictive and planned maintenance activities.
- Assisting with breakdown investigations and root cause analysis.
- Reviewing maintenance work to ensure quality and effectiveness.
- Supporting shutdowns, audits and statutory inspections.
- Maintaining accurate records within maintenance management systems.
- Identifying opportunities to improve plant reliability, efficiency and safety.
- Promoting safe working practices and maintaining high site standards.
What We're Looking For
- Suitable candidates will be safety-focused, proactive and detail-oriented with a passion for operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- You will be comfortable working independently while building strong relationships across engineering and operational teams.
- You should also have:
- Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Plant Maintenance or a related discipline.
- Apprenticeship-trained or equivalent engineering experience.
- Experience within quarrying, aggregates, mining, cement, manufacturing, recycling or similar heavy industrial environments.
- Knowledge of fixed and/or mobile plant maintenance and inspection practices.
- Strong fault-finding and equipment condition assessment skills.
- Experience using CMMS or maintenance management systems.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Good understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Strong communication and report-writing skills.
- Experience with condition monitoring, vibration analysis or predictive maintenance programmes (advantageous).
- NEBOSH, IOSH (preferred).
