We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quarry Manager to join and lead our friendly operations team at our Tarmac Ballidon Quarry near Ashbourne, Derbyshire. As well as Ashbourne, this site is accessible from Wirksworth, Matlock, Carsington, Buxton, Bakewell, Derby, Chesterfield, Burton-upon-Trent and the surrounding areas.

Main ResponsibilitiesThe Quarry Manager will manage and be accountable for all operations on the Quarry. Safety and operational standards are the fundamentals of the role with cost control, people management, delivery to customer needs and performance improvement being key.
- Managing plant compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role.
- Managing, coaching and developing a highly skilled, fit for purpose and extremely motivated team to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk.
- Leading change and continuous improvement initiatives, whilst maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports.
- Understanding different methods of winning and extracting raw material.
- Knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals and its applications within the industry, including feeding, crushing, screening, washing, separation, classification and beneficiation techniques.
- Understanding Quarry Regulations 1999 enabling a Reg 8.1d appointment.
- All aspects of budgetary control for the Plant.
- Maintaining and implementing existing and new Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the same.
- Managing and overseeing the safe operation of the plant and the planned preventative maintenance of all of the site's equipment fixed and mobile with responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues and business partners.
- Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices.
- Issuing of safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team.
- Managing proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix.
- Collating and reporting on monthly performance KPI for your business unit for the Area Operations.
- Managing and driving operational performance through KPIs.
- Ensuring appropriate Contractor and visitor inductions are carried out in line with company procedures.
- Leading the collaboration between the site based crushing, load and haul, asphalt and maintenance teams within the operation.
This role is a Days role Monday to Friday, but flexibility is key to this role with the expectation to be available to meet with our plants operational and customer needs as well.
The Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate for the role of Quarry Manager will have proven experience working in Quarrying Operations/Asphalt Operations. The successful candidate for the role of Section Manager will also have:
- Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology.
- SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6.
- IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous.
- Geotechnical level 4 advantageous.
- Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems.
- Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies.
- Strong IT skills including a high level of competence with SAP and the Microsoft packages Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to multitask and manage change.
