We're looking for a Roadstone Operative to join our team at Tunstead Stone (Quarry), Buxton, one of the UK's largest and most advanced quarrying operations.
What the Role Involves
As a Roadstone Operative, you'll play a vital role in keeping our stone operations moving efficiently. You'll operate mobile plant to support road and rail deliveries, ensuring materials are moved, loaded and stockpiled safely and in line with daily sales demand. This is a practical, varied role, where you may also support quarry operations and cleaning activities within stone processing plants when required.
Location: Tunstead Quarry, Buxton
Easily commutable from Buxton, Macclesfield, Stockport, Dronfield, Manchester, Sheffield, Chesterfield, Leek, Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas.
Hours & Shifts: 42 hours per week Rotating 4 on / 4 off shift pattern (day and night shifts) 2 x 12-hour days (6am-6pm) then 2 x 12-hour nights (6pm-6am) then 4 days off.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Stone Production Manager, you'll be responsible for:
- Safe and accurate loading of HGVs and rail wagons
- Operating mobile plant efficiently to meet fuel and performance targets
- Ensuring materials are tipped and stockpiled in line with site standards
- Supporting blending, stock replenishment and product availability
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and plant cleanliness
- Capturing and recording stock movements accurately
- Supporting investigations into quality issues and customer complaints
- Working strictly in line with health, safety, environmental and quality procedures
- Reporting near hits, hazards and safety defects promptly

What We're Looking For
You'll be a proactive and reliable operator with experience working in a quarry, aggregates or heavy industry environment. You'll ideally have:
- Experience operating loading shovels and dumpers
- Good working knowledge of mobile plant and aggregate products
- Ability to carry out manual cleaning duties in processing plants
- Strong awareness of SHE procedures and safe systems of work
- Good attention to detail and ability to keep accurate records
- Basic numeracy and reporting skills
- NVQ Level 2 in Specialised Plant & Machinery (desirable, not essential)
- Good communication skills and a strong team ethic
- A proven track record of being reliable, punctual and safety-focused
