As an experienced mechanical fitter, you will take ownership in a fast‑paced, heavy industrial environment at Tarmac's engineering team. This key role supports multiple sites in the Lancashire region, focusing on maintaining plant performance, minimizing downtime, and driving continuous improvement.
The Role
As a Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of quarry and plant equipment. You will work across sites, responding to breakdowns, delivering planned maintenance, and supporting improvement projects within a dynamic operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across mobile plant.
- Respond to plant breakdowns, restoring equipment to service safely and efficiently.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and implement robust, long‑term solutions.
- Support and deliver small engineering and improvement projects.
- Work collaboratively with contractors and site teams.
- Contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.
- Undertake welding and fabrication to a high standard.
- Follow risk assessments and safe systems of work at all times.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records using CMMS systems.
- Promote and uphold high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
What You’ll Bring
- Recognised mechanical apprenticeship.
- Experience in quarrying, industrial plant, or manufacturing environments.
- Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving capability.
- Proven ability to carry out effective breakdown repairs.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Basic IT skills (maintenance systems and reporting).
- A solid understanding of health and safety practices.
- Desirable: Knowledge of mobile crushers, conveyors, motors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, belt sand vibratory screens.
