We are currently looking for a Transport Planner to join our friendly Readymix team based at Tarmac Birtley in Birtley, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham. This role is commutable from Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, Consett, Durham, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Darlington, South Shields, Wallsend, Longbenton and the surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Reporting directly to the Distribution Manager, the Transport Planner will be responsible for processing orders and coordinating the day-to-day deliveries of ReadyMix concrete by vehicles owned and operated by Tarmac, third-party haulage bases.
  • Engaging with customers to receive and process ReadyMix concrete orders.
  • Scheduling delivery times in line with customer expectations.
  • Working alongside the distribution team and the wider area transport team to provide a cost effective, sustainable, safe and customer focused transport operation for the business.
  • Management of compliance and legal requirements both from a statutory, industry and Tarmac perspective ensuring all contract and/or third-party hauliers are operating to Tarmac standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Strategically planning and building relationships with Third Party haulage suppliers through contract negotiation.
  • Working with the Logistics and Production Managers to provide a medium to long term plan to meet demands.
  • Proven experience working collaboratively within a team to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner and to a high standard.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) and confidence to build rapport and positive relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Desire to work as part of a team and the confidence to challenge processes and behaviours.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Ability to provide excellent service to internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving skills combined with numeracy and analytical ability.
  • Commercially minded approach.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft IT packages (SAP and CRM systems preferred).

Shift and Working Pattern:

This role is a Monday - Friday role on a rotating shift pattern (7am - 4.30pm and 8am - 5.30pm) and Saturday mornings when required (approx once per month).
